'Worst case scenario': Some Chelsea fans left worried by what Tuchel said after Villa game

A sea of Chelsea supporters on social media was smacked by the realisation that they might be without Edouard Mendy for the Champions League final.

Mendy was replaced at half time during the Blues 2-1 loss to Aston Villa yesterday afternoon.

Thomas Tuchel explained in his post-match interview that the goalkeeper had collided with the post and injured his ribs.

He also said that a scan would be required to see the extent of Mendy’s damage.

With the European showdown just six days away, Blues fans were left feeling very fragile after this latest update.

As Saturday draws closer, those associated with Chelsea will be sweating over Mendy’s fitness.

The 29-year-old has been a brilliant addition to Tuchel’s squad since his arrival last September.

In 43 appearances this season, he’s kept 29 clean sheets and only conceded 24 goals.

In the Champions League, especially, is where Mendy’s class has come to fruition.

Real Madrid, Porto and Rennes are the only European sides to score past Chelsea’s no.1 ‘keeper this campaign.

They only managed three goals between them, such is the Senegalese’s stature between the sticks.

Being without Mendy would mean calling upon Kepa Arrizabalaga once again, which won’t strike great confidence into the nerves of Chelsea followers.
