Liverpool were able to add centre-backs Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies to their ranks on Deadline Day – but Jurgen Klopp may have a problem fitting his players into a starting XI

Liverpool’s recruitment of Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies to the defence may give Jurgen Klopp some problems in his line-up selection.

The Reds brought in the Preston centre-back amid an injury crisis that has Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip out.

While the Turkish international joined on loan until the end of the season from Schalke with an option to buy to bolster the back line.

And Klopp’s injury crisis means that the pair could be pushed together in a starting XI straightaway.

The pair would sit in front of goalkeeper Alisson while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson continue to roam the wings.

Keeping the 4-3-3 formation for the Reds’ counter-attacking prowess, though, the boss would find himself with a new problem.

Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, who have been slotting into the centre-back roles, are now available for selection alongside Thiago Alcantara and Georginio Wijnaldum.

With the Brazilian due back for the weekend’s clash against Manchester City, he would slot back in front of the defensive line.

While the Dutchman, who grabbed a goal against West Ham, can move up to his preferred attacking midfield position alongside the club captain.

This would allow the pressure to be taken off Thiago, who has suffered a tough run of form over the last eight games.

With Sadio Mane also set for a return, the front three of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino would be complete.

And Klopp hinted at a starting position for Kabak in his first comments on the 20-year-old from the Bundesliga.

The manager said: “For him, I think it’s a really good moment to make the move because, like each player in the world, you need a stable team around you and that’s what we can deliver.

“We deliver a stable team and you can play your position, you don’t have to be 20 with pretty much everything on the pitch and not allowed to make mistakes anymore.”

While the German was delighted with Davies’ first comments on his move to Anfield.
