Man Utd’s stance on £40m Dayot Upamecano transfer as Sergio Ramos available for free

Manchester United are expected to prioritise a top-class centre-back in the summer transfer window. Manchester United are reportedly yet to enter talks over Dayot Upamecano as they eye centre-back signings in the summer transfer window. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to strengthen his defence ahead of next season and the Red Devils have also been linked with Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos.

United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is expected to make funds available this summer to sign a new centre-back partner for Harry Maguire.

Maguire and Victor Lindelof have been an unconvincing pairing, while Eric Bailly had a brief run in the team recently but concerns remain over his injury record.

Solskjaer’s side have conceded more goals in the Premier League this season than any other side in the top half of the table other than Leeds United.

And their defensive difficulties have led to the club being linked with moves for RB Leipzig defender Upamecano and Madrid captain Ramos.

Upamecano reportedly has a £40million release clause in his contract and is expected to be on the move this summer, with several of Europe’s top clubs interested in the 22-year-old.

However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano says reports that United are in talks over the centre-back are wide of the mark.

Upamecano reportedly has a £40million release clause in his contract and is expected to be on the move this summer, with several of Europe’s top clubs interested in the 22-year-old.

However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano says reports that United are in talks over the centre-back are wide of the mark.

“He’s the main target for Bayern Münich prepared to pay the release clause, Chelsea and Liverpool are still in the race. Also PSG interest now cooled down.”

Another potential target is Ramos, who has so far not committed to a new contract at the Bernabeu and could be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Romano says United are yet to open talks with the Spain defender’s representatives as they whittle down their list of potential defensive targets.

“Manchester United have not contacted Sergio Ramos agent as of today,” Romano tweeted.

“They’ll decide for the real target as centre-back in the coming months. #PSG are interested [only if Sergio will leave the club as free agent, no decision yet – situation still open with Real].
